                         Google has introduced the next version of its Android operating system – Android Oreo – calling it ‘smarter, faster, more powerful and sweeter than ever’. Android 8.0 brings in features such as Notification dots, which is a simple way to access notifications, Picture-in-picture for multitasking, Autofill Framework that remembers all login credentials, Background limits that prevent unintentional overuse of battery and memory, Google Play Protect and faster boot time and redesigned Emoji, among other things.
                   

                      Android 8.0 is focused on optimizing  battery life, graphics rendering, and stability, while giving developers better visibility over the health of their apps. Here are some of the key highlights of Android Oreo.


                         Google is pushing the sources to Android Open Source Project (AOSP) for everyone to access. Dave Burke, VP of Engineering, Android, said in a blog post, “We’ve been working closely with our partners over the last many months, and by the end of this year, hardware makers like Essential, Huawei, HTC, Kyocera, Motorola, HMD Global Home of Nokia Phones, Samsung, Sharp and Sony are scheduled to be launching or upgrading new devices to Android 8.0 Oreo.” The adoption of the new Android OS is slow as compared to Apple’s iOS.


                         The number of Android smartphones running on Nougat is still very low primarily because manufacturers take time to release the update and, some don’t even do that. On the other hand, Apple releases the software update for all iOS users.


       
                        It was first released as an alpha quality developer preview on March 21, 2017 and finally released to the public on August 21, 2017.
